# Quickstart

> Build the example indicators and load them on a chart.

## Before you start

* Deepchart installed. The project references two libraries from its folder: `VolSysAPI.dll` and `VolumetricaCore.dll`.
* The [.NET 10 SDK](https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download).
* Your developer id (see [Developer id](/hybrid/developer-id)).
* Any editor: Visual Studio, Rider or Visual Studio Code.

## Build and load

<Steps>
  <Step title="Get the project">
    Clone or download this repository. The project is in `src`, the solution is `DeepchartIndicators.sln`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set your developer id">
    Open `src/DeepchartIndicators.csproj` and replace `YOUR-DEV-ID`:

    ```xml theme={null}
    <DeepchartDevId Condition="'$(DeepchartDevId)' == ''">YOUR-DEV-ID</DeepchartDevId>
    ```

    Deepchart loads a local dll only when it carries the id of the logged user.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Build">
    ```bash theme={null}
    dotnet build src/DeepchartIndicators.csproj
    ```

    The dll is written to `Documents\Deepchart\Indicators`, the folder Deepchart loads local indicators from.

    If Deepchart is not installed in `C:\Program Files\Volumetrica Trading\Deepchart\`, pass its folder:

    ```bash theme={null}
    dotnet build src/DeepchartIndicators.csproj -p:DeepchartDir="D:\Apps\Deepchart"
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add an indicator to a chart">
    Open a chart in Deepchart and open the indicator list. The examples are under **Personal**, with names starting with `Example -`.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Deepchart watches the indicators folder: after a new build, the dll is loaded again without restarting the app.
</Note>

## Write your first indicator

Copy `src/Basics/SimpleMovingAverage.cs`, rename the class and change the name returned by `Register()`. Each class in the dll with a `Register()` method is one indicator in the list.

Then read [Life cycle](/concepts/lifecycle) to learn when each method is called.
